Where is Peasens-Moddergat located?
Peasens-Moddergat is located in the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân on the north coast of Friesland. The village consists of the former fishing settlements of Peasens and Moddergat, which have grown together over the centuries.

An impressive history
For centuries, the inhabitants lived from fishing. The Wadden Sea was their source of income, but it also brought great dangers.
The history of the village is primarily defined by the disaster of March 5 and 6, 1883. During a severe northwesterly storm, many fishermen did not return home. In total, 83 fishermen from the region lost their lives. This tragedy has left deep scars on the village.
The disaster is still commemorated and forms an important part of the identity of Peasens-Moddergat. During a walk through the village, you will see various monuments and historic homes that serve as reminders of this event .
