The courthouse was probably built around 1700, where the first 'town hall' of the municipality of Dantumadiel (Dantumadeel in Dutch) was later established. The grietmen of the Grietenij met on the first floor. This can be seen as the predecessor of the current mayor and civil servants. The ground floor has traditionally always had a catering function. The municipality of Dantumadiel originated from the Grietenijen. Originally, these were areas over which a grietman ruled and exercised law on minor civil matters. Crimes were handled by the Court of Friesland in Leeuwarden. Initially, grietmen often acted independently, but from the 14th century onwards they increasingly began to work together. The Gretels thus became representatives of a large area, a go or shire, a kind of county. After the establishment of the Republic of the United Netherlands in 1580, the grietman was appointed by the States of Friesland and the Stadtholder. With the introduction of the municipal law of 1851, the grietenijs were abolished and Dantumadiel became a municipality.

No pets are allowed in the rooms without permission. We of course make an exception for medical assistance dogs.

On the ground floor you can find various brochures and maps of sights and activities in the area. You can take these brochures with you or borrow them free of charge. Also use our Visit Rinsumageast app. This will help you find a quick selection of sights and activities in Noardeast Fryslan.

Breakfast is served in the living room between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM. At check-in we ask you to complete a breakfast list and indicate a preferred time.

To protect the environment, linen and towels are not changed every day. Of course you can get new linen and towels. Just let us know and we will have it ready in your room.
